The following formula incorporates herbs that increase the activity of T-cells, NK cells, interferon, lymphocytes, and macrophages. As an added bonus, this blend helps stimulate spleen activity and strengthen the lymphatic system. This is best taken as a tincture, but you can also make a decoction:
1 part astragalus root
1 part shiitake mushrooms (dried if making a tincture)
1 part ashwagandha root
½ part redroot (Ceanothus spp.)
Preparing your Herbs
To make a decoction: Combine herbs and water in a covered pot. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Strain the tea and store unused portion in the refrigerator.
To make an infusion: Combine herbs in a teapot, pour boiling water over them, cover, and let steep 15 minutes. Strain the tea and store the unused portion in the refrigerator.
To make a tincture: Place herbs in a glass jar, cover with vodka to an inch or two above the herbs. Let stand for at least two weeks for leaves or flowers, or a month for roots, bark or seeds. Shake daily. Strain at the end of extraction period and store tincture in a dark, cool place.
Look for ingredients with the following to support the immune system: vitamin C, and E, carotenoids, bioflavonoids, selenium, copper, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids. This next recipe supplies probiotics, immune-boosting chemical constituents, antioxidants, zinc, and vitamin C:
½ to 1 cup of yogurt
1 tsp. powdered astragalus
Handful of blueberries
Handful of blackberries
1 kiwi fruit
You don’t have to get too specific with measurements. Feel free to experiment with ingredient ratios to find a flavor you like best.
The following ingredients supply sulphur compounds, vitamin C, and antioxidants. You can throw a teaspoon of powdered astragalus in this blend as well. In a juicer, simply combine all ingredients and blend:
Greens, such as spinach, kale or romaine
Garlic (small amount)
Yogurt or coconut milk to taste
1 tsp green matcha tea powder
1 tsp bee pollen
1 tablesp protein powder
1 small banana
Handful of blueberries
Combine all ingredients in a blend tech or vita-mix. Blend until smooth.
Daily juicing also makes a great addition to your daily routine, improving health, inner vitality, and energy. This basic juice provides a good balance:
Spinach and or Kale to taste
1 stalk celery
1 large carrot
¼ large orange-fleshed yam
1 cup shredded cabbage
Juice in a juicer or blend in a blend tech or vita-mix.
